Hmm. . buy Popsicle sticks, glue them into a square box, use tape for the hinges on the inside and out side maybe. Or even a shoe box with the lid the is on the top, not like some of these new shoe boxes that slide apart, have the kids glue stuff on the boxes, stuff they like that they can cut out of a magazine, or if to young teacher could cut out. Then its their own special treasure box.
Good Luck

Use empty soap boxes. Glue up the ends that are opened
and then cut the box in half length wise. Use Tacky Glue
to glue ribbon, yarn, buttons, sequins, uncooked macaroni,
beans or what have you to the box top. I would reinforce
both the top and bottom with masking tape and then use
felt to line both. You can purchase Tacky Glue at Wal-Mart,
Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. This glue is non-toxic and will
stick to waxy surfaces.

You could find plain wooden boxes at a dollar store, paint them and add rhinestones, ribbons, fabric or do simple stencils. My kids have used Altoids boxes(small metal, flip top rectangular boxes) and glued fabric on the outside and felt on the inside.
